SHL Media Guidelines – 2026/2027 Season

The SHL always strives to maintain good cooperation and strong relationships with all media representatives. Our contact with the media shall be characterised by the greatest possible openness and accessibility. In connection with SHL games, it is important to provide the media with the best possible service so that they can carry out their work.

Only broadcasting companies and other media partners contracted by the SHL have the right to broadcast live from SHL games. This means that no other media may record moving images or audio from 2 hours before puck drop until 45 minutes after the final whistle.

All interviews must be conducted in front of the SHL media wall. This applies only during the game window.

Accreditation

Authorised, sanctioned media such as TV, radio, newspapers and larger websites/blogs approved by the club may apply for accreditation to SHL games. Accreditation is granted subject to space and provided that local accreditation rules, such as deadlines and application procedures, are followed. Accreditation is personal and does not cover accompanying guests.

It is of the utmost importance that only working media receive accreditation to SHL games. The list of accredited media shall be carefully checked, and where there is any doubt, spot checks should be carried out, i.e. checking whether the visit resulted in an article or report. If no coverage was produced, the person's eligibility for accreditation should be seriously questioned.

Furthermore, only accredited media shall have access to the press box, press room and other press services. Accreditation is also required to attend the post-game press conference.

Accreditation is handled by the communications manager of the club in question.

Media not covering the game in question will not be accredited.

Press Box

The press box is available to accredited media.

Designated media seats shall be provided in the stands. These shall have work desks, internet access and power outlets. For games with exceptionally high media interest, regular seats without desks next to the press box may be made available to media to meet the total demand.

The press box is available until 90 minutes after the final whistle.

Press Conference

Press conferences shall be held after the game. The host club will provide information about the press conference arrangements upon accreditation.

Photo Positions

Photo booths by the ice are available in arenas where space allows overcrowding to be avoided. Rights holders have priority access to the photo booths.

Where possible, photographers should be able to shoot from ice level without obstructions such as plexiglass or similar. Photographers who wish to stand by the boards do so at their own risk and must wear an approved ice hockey helmet or equivalent during the teams' warm-up and throughout the game. Photographers are responsible for providing their own suitable helmet.

As far as possible, alternative positions, such as seats in the stands or positions behind the plexiglass at the ends of the rink, should also be provided for still photographers. Please contact the respective club for more information about the arena in question.

Interviews

One-on-one interviews with players and coaches are booked through the club's media manager. Information regarding post-game interviews is provided upon accreditation or by the respective club's communications manager.

Other Facilities

A designated area next to the players' tunnel shall be set aside for flash interviews for TV and web TV. All interviews must be conducted in front of the SHL media wall.

A workspace for media shall be provided. This press room shall have power outlets, internet access, tables and chairs. Game information shall be available.

Designated media parking should be provided where possible. It should be easy to get to and from these parking spaces even when there are large crowds around the arena. Photographers and others with heavy equipment should be able to drive up to the press entrance to drop off their equipment, unless the media parking is located right by the entrance.

The arena's press facilities are the workplaces of media representatives. They must therefore remain usable and operational (with lighting, power, etc.) for at least 90 minutes after the end of the game, or as agreed with the parties concerned.

Interviews and Press Conferences in Connection with Games

All filmed interviews must be conducted in front of the SHL media wall.

The official press conference shall start approximately ten minutes after the end of the game, with the teams' head coaches or assistant coaches taking part.

Teams shall normally be available to the media ten minutes after all players have entered the dressing room. Here too, it is of the utmost importance that coaches and players are available for interviews.

Please note that only media with an agreement with the SHL have the right to conduct player and coach interviews immediately after the game. Media with such agreements have been informed of the applicable interview procedure. Other media must wait for the press conference and arrange interviews through the relevant communications manager, or wait until the dressing rooms are opened to the media after the game.

Applying to Record Press Conferences

Live broadcasting of the press conference is not permitted. Media wishing to record the press conference may do so if permission has been applied for and granted by the SHL. Apply by contacting Robin Hedqvist, [email protected]. Permission is applied for and granted per season. Recordings of the press conference may be published no earlier than 45 minutes after the end of the game, with a maximum clip length of 5 minutes.

Game Information

Facts ahead of each game can be found in the game information on the SHL's official website, shl.se. The following information should be available in the press room before the game:

  • Line-ups (to be submitted to the game secretariat no later than 1½ hours before the start of the game)
  • Referees
  • Statistics and game information (from ISA)
  • Other information about anniversaries, milestones, streaks, "500th game", etc.
  • Information about what takes place in the arena before the game and during intermissions
  • A description of any honours, award presenters, sponsor activities, visits, etc. planned for the game
